Most business owners, coaches, consultants and even some B2B sales professionals are on the hero’s journey but they are not aware of it yet. I’ve gone through all 12 stages of the hero’s journey twice!
5 BIG SIGNS YOU ARE PROBABLY ON THE HERO’S JOURNEY.
1. In the past, you’ve had a lot of successes in your career. But you eventually had an epic failure in your business where you went bankrupt and/or you lost almost all of your material possessions and you hit rock bottom. Depression. You felt like a failure and just not good enough. (how could this happen?)
You kept this hidden or a secret for a while because you didn’t want anyone to “find out” (especially around money). This experience changed you. You learned some life changing lessons. And it probably drew you closer to God. NOW, you are in the process of reinventing yourself and/or you’ve launched the next business and you are trying to navigate this NEW journey, with new challenges hoping to make a strong comeback.
2. You had a painful, stressful, chronic problem in your business OR, your money/finances OR, your relationships OR, your health that lasted for YEARS! It led up to a crisis or a big loss that got your attention to finally CHANGE your life. You went on a search to solve your own problem. You tried everything! Nothing worked! You almost gave up! You tried one. more. thing. (or found a mentor.) That’s when you had a breakthrough and you solved your problem! NOW you feel compelled to help others overcome their problem too. This inner nudge to help others won’t go away!! You feel you MUST do it. So you start a coaching or consulting business. You feel led to coach people, speak on stages and “get your message out there” or you want to write a book.
3. Your first business failed and you learned big lessons. You feel led to help others. So you start business #2. It’s 2+ years later but you are still struggling with the SAME chronic problem you had in business #1 which is: “not having clients consistently” OR “You hit an income ceiling” OR “You have extreme cycles of “earning great income” and “then having low or no sales and income for several months in a row.” And for some of you, this is causing arguments with your spouse or loved one’s over money. They say, “When is this thing gonna take off?” or “Why don’t you just get a real job and get a steady paycheck?” or “Why don’t you just get a job that pays you a salary, not commission?” You know something MUST change or else.
4. You want to do meaningful work that you are passionate about. You are an overcomer. You’ve gone through some painful things and learned a thing or two and you know in your heart that you can help people. (You’ve always been that friend who people come to for advice.) You have a day job right now and you own a coaching or consulting business on the side. You’ve decided to make the transition to run your coaching or consulting business full-time but you don’t know how to get clients consistently so you can fulfill your calling and earn the income you want. And it feels like God keeps nudging you to go all in.
5. You own a business, or you are a coach or consultant, or you are a B2B sales professional. You know in your heart that you can truly help your clients because “you’ve been there and you know your solution works”. But this could be holding you back…
– perfectionism
– holding back from getting yourself out there in a bigger way
– over-analyzing
– indecision is keeping you stuck or on the fence
– “Imposter Syndrome” (“Who am I to be the one doing this?”) (a pattern in which an individual doubts his or her accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”)
– Struggling with fear or limiting beliefs
If any of this resonates with you, I highly encourage you to listen
to this Facebook LIVE tomorrow. I’ll be discussing your heroic journey and my own experience on this journey.
The hero’s journey has 12 stages. If you have experienced 2 or more of these stages, it is highly likely that you are on the hero’s journey and you have a VERY important calling and purpose to fulfill in your life. You’ve been going through a refinement process. It had to happen.
