“Don’t go broke trying to look rich and successful.” I learned this lesson the hard way.
Until 2012, I was living a fear-based life and chasing money. I didn’t even realize I was driven by fear at the time. I just thought I was a high achiever. The fear was unconscious. (being a high achiever is a great quality to have. But not if it’s fear-driven) I worked long hours and turned into a workaholic pushing myself to make more sales to earn more and more money. It was like trying to fill a hole that could not be filled up. Back then, I think I secretly wanted to live a “real housewives” type lifestyle on beer budget.
In 2008, I launched my lipgloss business. Part of me was driven by love and part of me was still being driven by fear. So I had some amazing successes happen like appearing on Shark Tank and other media. I won a few awards and I got my product sold in retail store. And I had some challenges too.
However, my old fear-based thinking led to a series of experiences that led to an identity crisis. At my lowest point, I went bankrupt, had a breakdown, and I gained 40 lbs. Later, I had a breakthrough. Turns out it was really a spiritual awakening, reinvention and rebirth. God gave me the strength to make a strong comeback.
I’m clear that I am not a victim in this situation. I created this. This didn’t happen to me, it was happening FOR me so I could become the leader and entrepreneur that I am today. I had to go through all of that as hard as it was so I could learn 7 life-changing truth’s about life and entrepreneurship. I shifted from fear driven thinking to love driven thinking. All of this drew me closer to God. I totally let go of my plans and I decided to go with God’s plan for my life which is fulfilling my calling. My prayer now is “God, use me”.
After several years of doing my inner work and healing, I discovered the root cause of my identity crisis was fear of not being good enough. My core wound was “I am worthless”. I had been trying to prove my worthiness with external things and I didn’t even realize it. Again it was unconscious.
We all have core wounds, fears and limiting beliefs that are unconsciously driving our thoughts, words and actions. This creates the results that are showing up in our life and in our business. If we like what’s showing up we created it. If we don’t like what’s showing up we created that too. But the good news is we have the power to create an extraordinary life. The first step is to wake up and living consciously. Then ask God for help and shift from fear to love. That’s when miracles happen.
I did my inner work and fully regained my worthiness, confidence and success. I learned that it’s perfectly fine to enjoy nice things in life for our enjoyment but not for trying to prove our worthiness to other people. I also believe in only buying things we can afford easily and never go in debt buying stuff. We are worthy with or without things.
Today, I live an extraordinary life. Each day I wake up and I get to do what I want when I want to do it. I do work I love. I have plenty of money, peace of mind and I am truly happy! I look back on all this now and I am so grateful this happened. It changed me for the better. I am closer to God more than ever.
Now, I’ve dedicated my life to helping entrepreneurs and leaders unleash their power and full potential to overcome every obstacle so they can create the life and business they desire, fulfill their calling, be happier and prosper.

April, I just read your email, and I understand. When I started my business 2 years ago, many wonderful opportunities started chasing me and I almost decided to go back to work rather than build my business.
It’s been 2 years now, and my business is growing and so is my income. For you I can only imagine how you struggle with wanting to keep the lifestyle you had grew your previous business into, but now with the change in the business, so is the change in the income. A decrease ! Fear comes in and makes you jump to any offer that you think will bring happiness to you and your family. But like you said in your Ezine, getting up to work on the weekends and the fact that other people make decisions for you and your family isn’t for you nor for me. Good luck with your new business venture!!!!
Thank you, Sharron. Yes, I think all of us goes on a search at some point in our lives trying to find our right path. We want to do work we love, earn plenty of income for our families, be happy and have freedom. Sometimes we have to go try things to know for if it’s our right path or not. I am crystal clear now. Finally! Thank you so much! And thanks for reading my weekly blog posts! I am so glad you are part of our community! Hugs, April
