Hey It’s April. Happy New Year!
Like most of us, you’ve probably set a goal or new year resolution and 12 months later you still had not reached your goal. This happens to me too. I’ve discovered that external problems require an internal solution (a mindset shift) in order to FINALLY solve the problem and reach our goals.
Let me explain using my own personal weight loss story. I’m embarrassed to even show you my “fat” picture. But here it is.
(Me, Jan. 2015. 160 lbs and a size 14. I was fat, depressed, lost and unhappy.)
(Me, Jan. 3, 2017. 132 lbs and a size 8. I’ve lost 28 lbs! I feel more confident, healthy, energized and I’ve gained clarity and momentum in my life and career. My goal is to reach my weight goal of 122 lbs by April, 30, 2017.)
My weight loss story
In January 2015, I was FAT, depressed and lost. My goal that year was to lose weight. A year later, I was STILL FAT! WHY? Because my external problem (the weight gain) was a symptom of a bigger unresolved problem that I still needed to heal internally.
Maybe you’ve been struggling to lose weight or know someone who is?
“What is it that I am really hungry for?”For me, I was hungry for “feeling like I was good enough (worthiness)” and hungry for “control” (personal power). When I started working on healing myself on the inside (my mindset), that’s when my mindset shifted, then my behavior changed and the weight started to come off.
I also asked for help to learn how to eat healthy, how to do cardio properly and how to strength train to lose the weight based on my height, weight and age. Cindy Sams (personal trainer) was great at helping me with that. I also enrolled in weight watchers in 2015 for 5 months. It all helped. But ultimately, I had to do the work.

I was willing to work on my mindset (internally). Subconsciously struggling with feelings of “not being good enough”, shame and feeling “powerless” was the ROOT CAUSE of my weight GAIN. When I did my “inner work” to heal that stuff, I took my power back and then I was able to change my eating habits and I changed how I felt about exercise and that’s when the weight started coming off my body.

That is a clear sign there is a deeper problem that must be identified and healed at the root source internally. Or that same problem will keep showing back up over and over again and blocking your progress until it is finally healed internally.
