The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Movie will be in theaters across America this weekend.
I can’t wait to see this movie! I’ve seen all the other episodes. (My favorite characters are Princess Leia, Yoda, & Luke Skywalker)
My Star Wars Hair Story…
I remember going to see the original Star Wars movie with my parents.
Back then, going to the movie was a big deal because our family was
on a tight budget.
That movie drew me in. The moment I saw Princess Leia in Star Wars,
I wanted to be just like her. She was a powerful leader, beautiful
and strong.
You may have felt the same way about your favorite super hero.
I begged my mom to fix my hair just like Princess Leia. (see photo above)
You remember the hair do, right? Two big braids that resembled a cinnamon roll.
One braid on each side of her head. My mom worked her magic. I looked into the
mirror with excitement to see my new Princess Leia braids. I felt like a
leader, beautiful and strong.
But I wanted more stuff…
So I asked my parents to buy me a Star Wars (Princess Leia) pencil, T Shirt,
lunch box, toy action figure, note book, necklace, poster and more.
And I still buy Star Wars stuff. Now you can see how they built
a 4 billion dollar empire.
Let’s explore HOW this movie became a mega hit a little more.
—————————————————————-
The first Star Wars movie released in 1977 generated
$786 Million Dollars worldwide at the box office. But the
biggest profits have come from souvenirs and merchandise sales.
“Merchandise sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens could
reach $5 BILLION”, say analysts. Whoa! That’s big!
—————————————————————-
From my perspective, here are two things that helped Star Wars
become a mega hit movie and how you can apply these to create
your own mega hit business.
1. George Lucas (the Star Wars film creator) successfully created an
emotionally compelling experience that influenced millions of
people to want to OWN a piece of that experience and buy lots
of souvenirs like I did. It happened because the Star Wars
story plot (which was inspired by writer Joseph
Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey”) tapped into a common
thread of humanity and triggered emotion resulting in
$4 billion in sales.
How this relates to your business:
Find ways to create (authentic) emotionally compelling experiences
for clients and prospects. Storytelling is one way to do this.
People make buying decisions based on emotion. You MUST lead with
emotion to attract more clients and increase sales. Period.
2. George Lucas was “the first” in the film industry to use NEW,
ground breaking technology in his first Star Wars film in 1977.
He created amazing special effects that no one had ever seen before.
How this relates to your business:
Position your yourself or your business as “the first” or “only”
in your industry. Be genuinely different. Extraordinary. Create a new
way to solve a problem that people have not seen before.
Create something new that they can’t buy anywhere else, they
can only buy it from YOU or Your Business. It must be new.
Different. Interesting. People ignore the same ole stuff.
In closing, how can you create an emotionally compelling experience
(that people have not seen before) that will position your product
or service as a souvenir that people can’t wait to buy?
